Liberty Junction’s History.

Foundation.

Liberty Junction Theatre Inc. was founded by Melanie Miles in 2008 and has been growing steadily for TWELVE years! We are a registered non-profit theatre organization in Mississauga offering a variety of performing arts programs for both children and teenagers, including summer theatre camps, musicals and plays, improv courses, acting for TV and film workshops, vocal training, and a Kinder Drama program for young children. “Liberty Junction” means a gathering place for freedom to be explored. We believe that where there is freedom, creativity will flow. We aim to create a positive and safe environment for participants in order that creativity and freedom would be expressed naturally. We believe that everyone is creative and has something to contribute. We will encourage them to lead, share ideas and have fun!

History

Early Years.

In the early days, Liberty Junction used to rehearse in church basements, and retirement communities - with community outreach sharing the talents with the residents of the retirement homes. Rehearsing in these spaces kept LJT grounded within the community, and really enhanced the feeling of family. Students found a safe, reassuring space to be free, and be themselves. To explore, expand, and develop their talents.

History

Risk, Faith, & Growth.

After a few years it became clear that LJT needed it's own space to grow. In July 2014 Liberty Junction moved into their studio on Dunwin Drive, Mississauga. Since then it has been an upward climb, taking risks, expanding, and having faith in the incredible community we have build. This space has been such a safe haven to so many of our students - a place where they can truly express themselves, their truths, and feel confident that they will be accepted for the incredible people they are.

History

New Beginnings.

Covid 19 hit the Theatre Community hard in early 2020. Liberty Junction has spent much of the year re-programming, pivoting, and finding ways to make theatre, performance, and learning new skillsets available to their students. Because of the inherent uncertainty of the world of theatre, LJT has decided to re-design their course structure. The goal with our re-structuring of courses is to provide the weekly support and connection our students crave, whilst still maintaining our artistic and pedagogical integrity to provide quality education in the arts to our student base. The 2020/21 Season will look very different from previous seasons - but that's okay. We must change and adapt with the times - it's basically the ultimate game of improv! And guess what?! We've got the SKILLS!
